Why 5 Portions a day?
Eating five portions of fruit and veg a day is a simple way of helping to maintain a healthier lifestyle and protect yourself from illnesses such as cancer and heart disease.
 
But how much is 'a portion'?
A portion can be one apple, one pear, one glass of fruit juice or a small bowl of tinned fruit.

It needn't be a struggle eating more fruit and veg either - why not try adding a banana or strawberries to your bowl of cereal in the morning or having an apple instead of that mid-morning biscuit!

But don't forget, it's not just about always having to eat healthily - it's about making food fun and enjoying what you eat!

A favourite with children (and Mums too!) - pizza contains portions of tomatoes plus any of your favourite toppings such as mushrooms, sweetcorn and onions. And don't forget the baked beans - full of goodness in the tomato sauce.

The earlier we can persuade our children to start eating regular portions of fruit and veg, the better - but it doesn't need to be a struggle if you know how!
