LOCAL RETAILER, GUY WARNER UNVEILS NEW LOOK BUDGENS STORE IN MORETON-IN-MARSH
Budgens, champion of the independent retailer has selected Moreton-in-Marsh to have the first new look convenience store that is set change the face of community shopping in the UK. Working in partnership with established local retailer, Guy Warner, the new Warner’s Budgens launched on Thursday 26 July after a £1million refit.

Since launching his first Warner’s Budgens at Broadway, in February 2006, Guy has become something of a local hero. He has been committed to local food from day one and his passion for the wealth of products from the area has continued to grow and so have his customers and now Warner’s Budgens stocks products from over 50 local suppliers.
Says Guy Warner of Warner’s Retail: “Since joining forces with Budgens last year, I have been able to bring the very best local foods to my customers who have developed their passion in tandem with mine. Budgens support for independent retailers like me has really has set the precedent for the future of grocery retailing and I am confident my customers at Moreton-in-Marsh will enjoy the very best local and fresh food in this groundbreaking retail environment”.
It’s all change at Moreton-in-Marsh as customers will love the 10,000sq ft store’s new layout and bright, spacious, modern interior. Each area is easily identifiable and the layout is designed to give customers a stress-free shopping experience. Of course, no store could possible achieve this without a team of well trained, helpful and locally based staff.
Local products feature prominently as you enter the store with flowers by Moreton-in-Marsh florist, Charlotte Gabb, and a seasonal local vegetable display as the first products that customers will see.
The Good to Go section offers a wide selection of hot and cold food and snacks including freshly squeezed juices and smoothies, and freshly ground coffee. Freshly made pizzas are created with a topping of your choice and there are handmade pies, quiches and cured (British) meats from award winning family butchers Newitt & Son. Ready-to-cook marinated meats and sauces, also by Newitt’s offer even more convenience for customers. For those with more exotic taste buds, there is a range of Indian dishes and sundries from Noon.
Budgens is renowned for its support of British farmers and producers and all their own label meat and poultry is British and all own label fruit and vegetables are British, when in season. To ensure customer satisfaction Budgens deliver fresh food daily.
Local bakery, Bread & Co will be delivering bread daily - their bread is made using only natural, basic ingredients. Guy has been creating partnerships with other local retailers, so Moreton-in-Marsh will be getting local meats from Martin’s of Broadway, fine wines and Champagnes from Stanton Wines Company of Broadway and cheeses by Royal purveyors, Paxton & Whitfield. Local cheeses from Godsells and Dairyhouse will also be available along with the winning cheese Oswalds, from Goreshill Abbey - from the Three Counties Show at Malvern. Warner’s Budgens sponsored the new Diary Tent at this show and pledged to sell the winning cheese in all three Warner’s Budgens stores*.
Jackson’s of Cornwall will deliver fresh fish daily and will offer a bespoke ordering service if customers have a special occasion, such as a dinner party, Jackson will recommend fish and appropriate accompaniments and deliver to Warner’s Budgens in time the event . The store will be offering whole lobsters too.
Wines, beers and spirits will be housed in a dedicated area within the store with its stylish spot-lit wine racks and chillers, along with a permanent sampling table. Local producers in this area include Hook Norton Brewery, Tipsy Liqueurs, Cotswold Brewing Company and Cotswold Country Liqueurs.
Local and British fruits and vegetables will be available all year round and organic produce will feature prominently.
The store will also stock Budgens’ brand new own label premium range - ‘Our Kitchen’ which demonstrates Budgens’ passion for great food with a range of products that focus on the quality and provenance of the ingredients. Delicious options include Devonshire Red Corn Fed Chicken Paupiettes, Sea bass with Soy, Rosemary and Ginger Butter, Asparagus and Buffalo Mozzarella Medallioni Grandi, Stuffed Red Peppers and Summer Pudding. Every product has a point of difference, whether it’s a special ingredient or a unique history, and on-pack descriptions give customers more detailed information, such as how ingredients were selected or where the recipe comes from.
Warner’s Budgens will be hosting a series of local supplier tastings from Thursday 26th Sunday 29th July.

MUSGRAVE RETAIL PARTNERS GB WINS BEST CONSUMER INITIATIVE FOR SPONSORHIP OF BRITISH FOOD FORTNIGHT
Musgrave Retail Partners GB has won best consumer initiative in the Grocer Gold Awards 2007 for its sponsorship of British Food Fortnight. The campaign was deemed to be a ‘unanimous win’ by the judges.
Events, which included local produce samplings, ‘Design a chef’s hat’ competitions and in-store promotions helped to boost footfall in Budgens and Londis stores by 25% and sales of products offered for tastings by 50%. Media coverage was estimated to have reached an audience of more than 300 million people.
The judges agreed that the initiative was well executed and enhanced the messages of local community, provenance and total family engagement.
Musgrave Retail Partners GB beat off stiff competition from Sainsbury’s (for Active Kids), Tesco (for GDA labelling) and Waitrose (for
Dalehead
Foods
Easy
Range
) who were also short-listed for the award.
