In order to help keep ahead in the fiercely competitive retail industry, the past few years have seen Budgens successfully develop a niche concept within the market which can be adapted to meet the varying lifestyles, locations and shopping needs of the customer ranging from 1500sq,ft convenience stores, to petrol forecourts to 10,000sq ft primary shopping locations .

In July 2002, Budgens was successfully acquired by The Musgrave Group - Irelands largest food and grocery distributor. A privately owned family business, The Musgrave Group had previously owned 28% of Budgens shares and had been working with Budgens to develop a pilot scheme in two of the Budgens stores.

Both Budgens & Musgrave have very similar retail offers and are united in their approaches to retailing within their respective markets.

The next few years offer an exciting time for Budgens stores, but one thing is for certain, Budgens will be in a stronger than ever position to be able to offer customers a local store that is a viable alternative to the superstore!
